AMM MasterCast 035: Are You Ready for the GDPR Clampdown?
In this week’s MasterCast, Brian York and Grant Perry speak with Helen Hunsperger, the International General Council for the Agora Companies. The topic of discussion is four letters that you probably have heard in the past few months, but don’t know too much about: GDPR.
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulation, and it comes into effect in the European Union (EU) on May 25, 2018. The aim of this regulation is to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the EU.
In terms of what you can and can’t do from a marketing perspective, GDPR is very much an evolution of existing European data protection rules that have been in place since 1988. However, the huge difference is the requirements for companies to show their compliance with GDPR and that regulators can (and will) come down very hard on anyone who fails to be GDPR compliant.
GDPR is not one of the sexiest topics to talk about, but it is probably one of the most important as it will affect Agora business across the board, whether your company is based in the EU or not.
